In a press release 9/9/19, the City of San Mateo announced the council had unanimously decided not to challenge the legality of the citizen initiative to extend Measure P. This is great news in terms of moving us toward where we need to be. The city council must still take the necessary steps for a public vote on this welcome commitment to formally make this a reality. We would like to see this vote happen as soon as possible, but council seems to have the option to wait until mid-2020 to take this action. And as the press release mentions, there is still the possibility that others could challenge the legality of the initiative, but we certainly hope they will follow the council's lead and finally let the citizens decide this issue once and for all.
